We are excited to announce that we are making a special opportunity available to all of our seniors. On Tuesday, August 20, at 7-8:30 pm in the high school, a team from The Humanity Launch (www.TheHumanityLaunch.com) will be leading the senior class in a leadership retreat. Our goal is to give our students a voice and choice in their education. We know that a successful school year at the high school level is a direct result of the leadership of the senior class.
The Humanity Launch is known for their student retreats and their Service Leadership Academy. They worked with over 14,000 students last year in South Dakota and Minnesota. The event Tuesday night will develop leadership skills and connect the students of the Class of 2025. This is done through storytelling, team building activities, and small group discussions.
We are bringing The Humanity Launch back on Thursday, August 29 for an all-day retreat with our freshmen to help them with their transition to high school. We need seniors to assist that day and to be effective they need to attend the Senior Leadership Retreat. We are excited for the potential that these two events hold for kicking off our school year!

Friday, August 23 at 7:00 PM will be the annual Gatorade scrimmage where you can preview the 2024 Warrior Football team as they scrimmage with both Sioux City North and Spencer. Admission is a donation of either powdered or bottled Gatorade/Powerade. A truck for the Warriors' donations will be at the main gate, while the other schools may have something at the large gate next to Warrior Road.

I had a chance to visit with people at Club 55 and Hawks Coffee this morning about our long-term facility plan and the bond issue to be voted on in November. Come to Hawks Coffee this evening at 6pm to learn about our plan and ask questions!

At the school board meeting on August 5, the board approved the petition to put a bond issue on the November ballot. The signatures now go to the county auditor for verification.
The language as it will appear on the ballot:
"Shall the Board of Directors of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District in the County of Woodbury, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $54,600,000 to provide funds to build, furnish, and equip a new Primary School building as an addition to the Elementary building and improve the site; to build, furnish, and equip a new Career and Technical Education building and improve the site; and to remodel, repair, and improve portions of the High School building, including HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems, building controls, and ceilings?"

Dead week is a great time away from activities for our student athletes and their families. It is also the week that all the gym floors get redone. Soon the floors will be shiny again, and the gyms will be filled with squeaky shoes of the volleyball team!

Tuesday, July. 30, the district will be receiving a new phone system, which may cause intermittent disruptions to our phones. If you call and can't get through on the 30th, please wait and call back.

You will now see this sign when you drive on Old Lakeport. Starting this fall...in preparation for a bond issue to build a primary building. If you want to sign the petition, stop by the district office!

We will be at the farmers market this evening. Come learn about the facility plans and sign the petition to put bond language on the ballot in November. Success By Listening Go Warriors!

TWO more opportunities to learn about facility planning and sign the petition to put a bond issue on the ballot in November. 1) We will have a booth at the farmer's market on Monday. 2) Attend COMMCON on Wednesday evening at 6pm. Let's have Success By Listening!

Update on the bleachers for Wednesday's substate game. There may be some bleachers. Recommend bringing chairs just in case.

Wednesday's substate baseball final vs. Heelan will be played at Sioux City West. Due to construction, there are no bleachers. Plan to bring your own chairs. SBL will be on the 1st base side. Game time is 7pm.

Come to the baseball and softball games tonight. It's a beautiful day for a ballgame. I will be present with the forms to put the bond language on the ballot in November. Phase I includes a new primary building added onto the elementary, infrastructure work at the high school (electrical, HVAC, lighting, etc.) and a new career and technical education building at the East Campus (80 acres on then east side of town).

Happy 4th of July!
