East Campus Project

ABOUT THE PROJECT

In November, the first part of SBL’s long-term facility plan was implemented.  The first part of Phase I was moving the baseball and softball fields to create a space for a primary building.  In addition to a new baseball and softball field, the district is building 6 tennis courts.  Currently the tennis program practices in South Sioux City and plays all their matches away as we don’t have our own facility.

Utilizing existing funds and the future of the penny sales tax, the work was begun this fall.  It is important for constituents to understand no new property tax dollars were used to build this facility.  Due to the extended fall weather we had, more work was completed than was originally planned.  A great deal of dirt was brought in.  The dirt was necessary to alleviate flood plain issues and to provide the proper depth for utility needs such as sewer.  The concrete has been poured for the softball dugouts and bullpens.  The turf apron and fence in the outfield for the softball field has also been installed.

Weather permitting, work will resume March 1.  Because of the good weather conditions into December, work is ahead of schedule.  We are hoping to have a grand opening event in June!  Let’s hope for an early end to winter and pleasant spring weather.

A few important things to note when looking at the site plan:

  • The drive entering the facility matches up with Windham St when crossing Old Lakeport.

  • The structure nearest the parking lot is the concession stand.  Restrooms are located on the north side of the concession stand.  There is a covered patio on the south side.

  • The batting cages are located between the two ball fields.

  • The baseball and softball fields are lit, the tennis courts are not.

  • The tennis courts will have pickleball lines.
