At Sergeant Bluff-Luton Schools, we are guided by our commitment to SBL: Strengthen-Build-Lead. This philosophy underpins all our efforts, including our approach to school safety:
Strengthen: We continuously strengthen our safety measures, policies, and procedures to create a robust framework for protecting our students and staff.
Build: We build strong relationships within our school community, fostering trust and open communication that are crucial for maintaining a safe environment.
Lead: We take a leadership role in promoting safety awareness and best practices, setting an example for our students and the broader community.
As part of our commitment to school safety, I am pleased to announce the launch of our new Safe School Helpline. This resource is designed to provide students, parents, and staff with a confidential way to report safety concerns, bullying, mental health issues, or any other situations that may pose a risk to our school community.
Key features of the Safe School Helpline:
Anonymity: All reports are completely anonymous, ensuring that individuals feel comfortable sharing their concerns without fear of identification.
Multiple reporting methods:
Web reporting: Visit the district website and click on helpline (information about the helpline is also available here)
Texting at 614-426-0240, then type TIPS
Calling 1-800-4-1-VOICE (418-6423), ext. 359
24/7 availability: The helpline is accessible at any time, day or night.
Mobile app: Download the Safe School Helpline app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for easy access on your smartphone. (QR Codes can be found on posters at school and brochures available in the building and counseling offices.)
We encourage students and adults to use this helpline for various reasons, including but not limited to:
Reporting bullying or cyberbullying
Sharing concerns about a student who may be struggling with mental health issues
Reporting suspicious activity or potential threats to school safety
Seeking help for substance abuse issues
Reporting child abuse or neglect
Sharing concerns about self-harm or suicidal thoughts
By providing this anonymous reporting system, we aim to create a culture where everyone feels empowered to speak up about safety concerns. Remember, if you see something, say something.
Our district remains deeply committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students. We believe that school safety is a shared responsibility. By working together – school staff, students, parents, and the community – we can ensure that our schools remain safe havens for learning and growth.
If you have any questions about the Safe School Helpline or our safety initiatives, please don't hesitate to contact my office or your child's school principal.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our schools safe.
Sincerely,
Chad Janzen, Superintendent
