We are excited to announce that we are making a special opportunity available to all of our seniors. On Tuesday, August 20, at 7-8:30 pm in the high school, a team from The Humanity Launch (www.TheHumanityLaunch.com) will be leading the senior class in a leadership retreat. Our goal is to give our students a voice and choice in their education. We know that a successful school year at the high school level is a direct result of the leadership of the senior class.
The Humanity Launch is known for their student retreats and their Service Leadership Academy. They worked with over 14,000 students last year in South Dakota and Minnesota. The event Tuesday night will develop leadership skills and connect the students of the Class of 2025. This is done through storytelling, team building activities, and small group discussions.
We are bringing The Humanity Launch back on Thursday, August 29 for an all-day retreat with our freshmen to help them with their transition to high school. We need seniors to assist that day and to be effective they need to attend the Senior Leadership Retreat. We are excited for the potential that these two events hold for kicking off our school year!

At the school board meeting on August 5, the board approved the petition to put a bond issue on the November ballot. The signatures now go to the county auditor for verification.
The language as it will appear on the ballot:
"Shall the Board of Directors of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District in the County of Woodbury, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $54,600,000 to provide funds to build, furnish, and equip a new Primary School building as an addition to the Elementary building and improve the site; to build, furnish, and equip a new Career and Technical Education building and improve the site; and to remodel, repair, and improve portions of the High School building, including HVAC, lighting, and electrical systems, building controls, and ceilings?"
Update on the bleachers for Wednesday's substate game. There may be some bleachers. Recommend bringing chairs just in case.
Wednesday's substate baseball final vs. Heelan will be played at Sioux City West. Due to construction, there are no bleachers. Plan to bring your own chairs. SBL will be on the 1st base side. Game time is 7pm.
Come to the baseball and softball games tonight. It's a beautiful day for a ballgame. I will be present with the forms to put the bond language on the ballot in November. Phase I includes a new primary building added onto the elementary, infrastructure work at the high school (electrical, HVAC, lighting, etc.) and a new career and technical education building at the East Campus (80 acres on then east side of town).
